Food in Ubud

We mostly ate at the Bali Pesto restaurant in Ubud, which is the sister restaurant to Gusde House. The food was just excellent.

Close to Candidasa is Charley's chocolate factory. Built by Australian Charley more than 20 years ago, in bamboo. Great views and chocolate.

BBQ in Memphis, TN, November 2015

We had wanted to eat ribs in Memphis, the ribs capital of the world. The NYT recommended the Bar-B-Q shop .. and it was excellent. No dinner that night.

Nashville is also the home of bluegrass music. And the principal venue for bluegrass music is the Station Inn. We had an excellent  dinner next door at the 404 Kitchen prior to the show.

The concert was by The Boxcars, one of the great bluegrass bands. A great night out!!

The first thing you do when getting to PEI is to buy fresh lobster. Then poach in wine, garlic and ginger. Yummy!

A day out in Gatineau, Quebec, August

On a beautiful, and hot, summer's day we visited Wakefield and Chelsea, in the hills north of Gatineau and on the outskirts of the very large Gatineau Park. Wakefield is small but full of touristy boutiques, bakeries, restaurants and the like. We were brought to Wakefield by the excellent guide on local food outlets and restaurants we picked up at the tourist office in Gatineau. In particular, we were headed for La Confisiere, an artisinal producer of chocolate, fudge, chutneys and relishes. What a tremendous shop!

After wandering around Wakefield for a couple of hours we headed into the country to a local farm for organic vegetables and wild boar sausages! And then to lunch at L'Oree du Bois restaurant in Chelsea for a late lunch. This is a Provencal restaurant that has been in operation for more than 30 years. As is typical with this cuisine, the food came out 'family style.' There is a strong emphasis on seafood. Sauces are less heavy than Parisian food. What a revelation!!
